ALEXANDRIA, Va.—This May, The Vision Council is promoting the importance of eye health and regular eyecare for children and adults nationwide through the celebration of Healthy Vision Month. Each May, the Center for Disease Control’s Vision Health Initiative partners with the National Eye Institute (NEI) to encourage all Americans to make vision a health priority and raise awareness around the necessity of regular vision care as a part of routine health care prevention and treatment, according to an announcement from The Vision Council.

The Vision Council encourages members and the industry at large to participate in Healthy Vision Month by engaging on social media with the hashtag #HealthyVisionMonth and exploring the resources available on the National Eye Institute’s Healthy Vision Month page, here.

The Vision Council has also created a social media content calendar for the month of May that members can use for consumer-facing social media marketing, which includes messages around Healthy Vision Month. Members can access the calendar here. Additionally, The Vision Council recently launched a Vistaprint ProShop that gives members access to printable consumer marketing materials at a discounted rate. “As we continue to return to a degree of normalcy in terms of health and wellness, Healthy Vision Month is the perfect time for the public to catch up on their eye exams and for eyecare providers to engage with patients in a positive way about their eye health,” said Ashley Mills, CEO of The Vision Council. “We’re proud to support this important month and encourage the industry to participate.”

Additionally, The Vision Council is elevating awareness of Healthy Vision Month and encouraging the public to participate by making smart lifestyle choices for their eye health through the distribution of a press release over PR Newswire.

Throughout the month, The Vision Council will pitch news stories about the importance of maintaining eye health to top consumer media outlets, highlighting important eye health tips, including: reasons to schedule a comprehensive eye exam for you and your family each year; the importance of wearing sunglasses year-round; and the best foods to eat for eye health, among others.

The Vision Council will also share information, tips and eye health resources for consumers at https://visionoptions.thevisioncouncil.org/ and on social media via @visionoptionsbytvc on Instagram and Facebook.
