Quick Take: At Slimo this weekend, Philipp Plein from De Rigo Rem debuted its first “phygital” eyewear style.
Specifics: The SPP008 “phygital” model is a mask style with thick acetate creating a spoiler effect on the sides. The lenses showcase a geometric hole featuring the three-dimensional metal Plein logo, while the thin metal temples are decorated with the hexagonal PP logo. This style is available in two colour variants: matte black acetate, gold-coloured metal and rainbow mirrored lens; glossy black acetate, gunmetal metal and silver mirrored lens.
A limited-edition drop of 1,000 “phygital” frames was launched during an exclusive event at the Philipp Plein boutique in Paris on 24 September. Every pair has its own serial number and is accompanied by a special box featuring a video screen offering a preview of the NFT (non-fungible token), the unique piece of art created for that style by Antoni Tudisco, the 3D artist who founded the Crypto King$ artistic duo together with Philipp Plein. To access the NFT artwork, the customer will have to scan the QR code printed inside the exclusive box.
Selling Point: Plein said, “I’m proud of the partnership with De Rigo, which has now reached new heights. With this hyper-contemporary project, I’m able to express my vision and deliver a unique experience within the eyewear industry.”
Barbara De Rigo, chief marketing officer at De Rigo Vision, said, “The collaboration with a brand as dynamic and disruptive as PHILIPP PLEIN is a real game changer for our company. With the first phygital style, we demonstrated our ability to design, manufacture and target a wider community by bringing eyewear into the digital world.”
