Product: “Augmented Reality: A Brighter Future for the Visually Impaired”; Exploring the Potential of AR for Optometrists and People with Vision Impairment
Top Line: Mojo Vision and Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired are conducting a joint webinar on July 23 exploring how augmented reality (AR) could benefit people with vision impairment.
Close Up: Nearly one in 30 Americans over the age of 40 experience vision loss that can’t currently be corrected by treatment, surgery or corrective lenses. Although there are a number of existing tools to help those with vision impairment, most are meant for use within the home and don’t allow the level of mobility necessary for day-to-day life.
However, the field of AR provides some hope for those with a vision impairment. With the ability to overlay simplified, high-contrast images onto one’s surroundings and the external world, AR can provide a myriad of benefits not available through today’s tools and aids.
The webinar, entitled “Augmented Reality: A Brighter Future for the Visually Impaired,” will feature expert opinions from technologists and eyecare professionals, providing the optometric community and those with vision impairment a glimpse into the future—of the potential of AR technology and the current state of new and upcoming solutions.
