Ice-Tech’s MaX edger can produce advanced frame shapes.
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla.—Ice-Tech Advanced Lens Technologies, the exclusive manufacturer of the Thin-Ice Lens, is expanding its in-house production capabilities with the addition of the MaX, a new five-axis edger.

According to Ice-Tech, the MaX is a custom, five-axis edger. Its proprietary design allows Ice-Tech to have complete control of the hardware and software, enabling it to cut lenses for challenging jobs such as the Oakley and Rudy Project frames in higher powers, including high cylinder. When the MaX is used in combination with the Thin-Ice Lens—a patented technology that thins up to 50 percent of the lens material not required—Ice-Tech can offer an exclusive solution for wrap frames.

“The MaX edger project has increased sales, because we can now compete with some larger facilities that have purchased edgers of this type,” said Ice-Tech president Beth Showalter. “Since we built it from scratch, though, we don’t have the same limitations that competitive, imported edgers have. We can remain a strong, American owned and operated company.”

The MaX edger is currently exclusive to Ice-Tech and is used to produce any advanced frame shapes ordered by their customers.
