As an editor for Vision Monday covering our Leadership Summit, I have a bird’s eye, behind-the-scenes look at how the event actually comes together. It starts with a lot of pre-planning and logistical meetings, segues into securing speakers, marketing the event, and finally culminates with rubbing elbows with our presenters in the Green Room once we all finally arrive at the Times Center.

It’s a big production, and we sweat the details, sometimes going down to the wire. But once it begins and people take their places, all the months of hard work pay off as we VMers begin to report on some mind blowing presentations from some very forward looking thinkers. Bionic eyes, 3D-printed contact lenses, smartphone refraction systems, and sensors so tiny you can wear them in your clothing or stash them in the wheel hub of a bicycle.

These were just a some of the topics at this year’s VM Summit where the theme was Connectivity—to everything it seems. People connected to devices, devices connected to devices—the Internet of Things—and people connected to people—the Internet of Me. The technology of today and the technology of tomorrow, affecting every facet of our lives—our health, our social lives, our workplaces, buying habits and, of course, our vision.

In many ways, the VM Summit embodies what Vision Monday itself is all about. The objective is the same—to get industry leaders thinking, strategizing, discussing the myriad possibilities for growing their business and delivering the best possible products and services to their customers and patients.
