VisionBringing Vision to the U.S. and the World Inception1932 Program ResultsSince inception, New Eyes has made it possible for more than 7 million people in the U.S. and 56 countries around the world to see clearly. New Eyes purchases new eyeglasses for poor children and adults in the U.S. and recycles donated glasses for distribution to indigent people in developing nations. New Eyes has purchased over 370,000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses for disadvantaged U.S. residents since its founding in 1932. New Eyes uses a voucher system to purchase glasses which partners the organization with optical dispensers across the country. In 2008/09, New Eyes recycled more than 160,000 pairs of eyeglasses in 28 developing countries through small medical missions and large charitable organizations such as Physicians for Peace and the Tree-Land Foundation. The backbone of New Eyes is its corps of 250 volunteers of all ages and stages of life. Volunteers sort and test eyeglasses, provide administrative support and manage the Fabulous Finds Jewelry & Giftware Showroom, the proceeds of which support the U.S. eyeglass program. Get Involved1. Collect eyeglasses, reading glasses and sunglasses for New Eyes For the Needy. New Eyes also recycles hearing aids. 2. Provide free eye examinations for people without insurance or the funds to pay for an exam. 3. Accept the New Eyes’ voucher as payment for glasses (reimbursement averages $60/pair). 4. Make a financial donation to the U.S. eyeglass program: $60 will provide the eyeglasses and clear sight that can turn someone’s life around. 5. Donate jewelry and/or giftware to the Fabulous Finds showroom.
