VisionOur vision is vision; to promote a lifetime of healthy vision. Inception1908 Program ResultsWhile it is believed that half of all blindness can be prevented, the number of Americans who suffer from vision loss continues to increase. It is because of this that the work of Prevent Blindness America is so important. Founded in New York more than 100 years ago, the organization has the only national certified vision screening training program. To-date, Prevent Blindness America and its network of affiliates have trained more than 20,000 vision screening personnel and screen more than 2 million adults and children every year. In addition to vision screening, Prevent Blindness America offers many other programs and services to help fight blindness and save sight including: • School-based programs and curriculum; • Patient and public education programs; • Professional education and training; • The Vision Health Resource Center (1-800-331-2020); • Federal and State-level advocacy; • Research funding; • Workplace and sports eye safety programs; • Informational publications and videos. Get InvolvedPrevent Blindness America is always looking for eager volunteers to assist with advocacy programs, vision screenings, national and affiliate-level committees and Boards, and community education initiatives, such as the upcoming national children’s vision campaign, Star Pupils. Additionally, Prevent Blindness America regularly seeks corporate and organizational partner to advance initiatives collaboratively. Over the years the organization has partnered with professional organizations (including ophthalmology, optometry and pediatrics); corporate partners (including VSP, Transitions, Luxottica, etc.); and Federal partners (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Maternal and Child Health Bureau).
