NORWALK, Ct.— IDOC (Independent Doctors of Optometric Care) has scheduled three regional conferences to examine the impact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) will have on the independent practitioner and small business owner. Presentations will address how the ACA legislation will affect health care in the U.S. and how it will personally impact optometric practices, patients and staff. Changes in reimbursements and revenue and the influence they will have on materials and products purchased will also be discussed. In addition, speakers will inform attendees how to gain access to state health care exchanges.

“The most critical topic facing the independent optometrist today is health care reform. We need to reprogram how we think about our practices as well as how we provide eyecare,” Mark S. Feder, OD, president and CEO of IDOC told VMail about the reason for holding this series of conferences this year.

Conferences are scheduled for Sept. 29 at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in Westchester, N.Y., Oct. 19 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, and Nov. 2 at the Phoenix Airport Marriott in Phoenix. Speakers from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care will be Damian May in New York and Arizona and Dick Wallingford in Atlanta. The registration fee of $200 will be fully refunded for IDOC members who register by Sept. 2. Non-members registering by that date will have $100 refunded from the $200 registration fee. Conference fees can be applied toward membership for those who join IDOC within 30 days, according to Feder.
