NEW YORK—Plans are underway for the 2012 Laugh for Sight New York Benefit, to be held at the World Famous Gotham Comedy Club on Monday, Oct. 29. Proceeds from the annual event will benefit The Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

Some of the comedy world’s most famous talents are confirmed to date for the event, including comedy legend Robert Klein, along with Janeane Garofalo, Paul Mecurio, Rich Vos, Bonnie McFarlane, and more. A silent auction is also planned and sponsorship opportunities are still available, with the 2012 sponsor roster to be announced soon.

Laugh For Sight was founded by legally blind standup comedian, Brian Fischler and Scott Wartham. It is a non-profit organization and its collective goals are to raise funds and public awareness for retinal degenerative eye diseases—specifically retinitis pigmentosa, stargardt's disease, and macular degeneration. Laugh For Sight expanded nationally a few years ago with shows in Los Angeles and South Beach. The biggest names in comedy all donate their time to perform at Laugh For Sight.

Information about the Oct. 29 event is available at info@laughforsight.com. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, Oct.4 and can be purchased at www.gothamcomedyclub.com, or by calling (212) 367-9000. People who can't make it to the benefit can make a donation through the group’s website.
