WESTBURY, NY— Design Gallery, the luxury division of Match Eyewear, has announced the acquisition of the Kata eyewear brand. Effective immediately, Match assumed ownership of Kata including its associated patents such as Kata’s M1 and Reverse hinge technology from B. Robinson.

Formed in the 90s, Kata is a Japanese collection designed around simplicity, innovation, responsibility and authenticity. The future collection will be a contemporary extension of Kata, offering premium product for patrons of boutique eyewear.

“As we continue to grow the stable of brands for our upscale division, we are extremely proud to be able to bring this iconic brand to the next phase of its evolution” said Ethan Goodman, president of Match Eyewear. “The Kata brand will join the Design Gallery Division of Match Eyewear and will perfectly complement current brands, Vanni Occhiali, as well as Judith Leiber Couture debuting this week at Vision Expo West. These brands will be represented through dedicated Design Gallery sales associates trained with the product knowledge boutique collections demand.”

Kata Eyewear will make its debut in 2017 for U.S., Canadian and European markets and subsequently introduced worldwide. The initial 2017 release will focus on men in both ophthalmic and sunwear, and the company is looking to make innovative use of Kata’s hinge technology in order to provide unique features for men.
