WESTBURY, N.Y.—Match Eyewear has announced a 10-year global license agreement with Judith Leiber, best-known for her luxury handbags, the development of ophthalmic and sun collections under the Judith Leiber Couture and the newly created JL by Judith Leiber brand names.

“We are thrilled to be acquiring Judith Leiber, an iconic luxury brand, expanding our designer portfolio,” said Ethan Goodman, president of Match. “We have spent time and resources to identify brand names synonymous with elegance, style and sophistication; Judith Leiber is just such a brand and exactly what we are looking for.

“It is extremely exciting to launch the new bridge collection, JL by Judith Leiber, which allows us to offer this luxury brand at a more accessible price point, which has always been our niche in the market,” he added. “Our design team is also on track to create an extremely elegant couture collection that will maintain the super luxury position Judith Leiber commands in the market.”

Match will begin servicing the new collection when it launches in 2016 to the optical channel and is working with the previous licensee and distributor, B. Robinson, to ensure a smooth transition of the brand.

Match Eyewear manufactures and distributes premium fashion eyewear with a dedicated sales force covering the U.S., Canada, Europe and South America. Since 2001, Match has expanded its brand portfolio and has recently added the Design Gallery division to distribute designer eyewear serving discriminating eyecare professionals and optical boutiques in the U.S., the company said.
