MUNICH, Germany—The 2017 Opti show in Munich, the international fair for optical design, to be held here on Saturday, Jan. 28 through Monday, Jan. 30 will serve as the stage for frame design highlighting the influence of bloggers in the industry as well as celebrating the comeback of classics in the “Vintage Passion” section of the !HOT area in Hall C1 for the 10th anniversary of the show.

When Opti first started, in January 2008, GHM organized 357 exhibitors presenting their products in three halls of 30,000 square meters at the Fairground Messe München. Since then, the trade show has been continuously expanding, and now covers more than 40,000 square meters in four exhibit halls. Last year, 570 exhibitors took part and over 550 are scheduled to show at the 2017 edition, organizers said.

For the first time, Opti will connect exhibitors and bloggers during the Blogger Spectacle. There are 10 spots at the Blogger Spectacle. Opti exhibitors can apply by submitting an application form until Nov. 23. The blogger jury, which consists of around 20 members, will evaluate new products submitted.

Additionally, on Jan. 28, the “Blogbuster 2017” newcomer prize will be presented at the Blogger Spectacle. This year’s 16 exhibitors will be able to introduce themselves and their product to the fashion and eyewear bloggers. The following companies have a chance to decide the outcome of the first edition of “Blogbuster 2017” in their favour: Smokexmirrors, Bawsome, Lask, Projekt Samsen, Wood and Cotton, Brillenmanufaktur S, lool, You Mawo, Movitra Spectacles, udla, eloise eyewear, Emian Böhe, Powder Heat, housebrand, nogs, Barriqule.

Another new feature to the show is the Opti area, “Vintage Passion” in the Hall C1 (!HOT area) which will focus on the fascination around vintage spectacles.

“The annual reunion of collectors from Europe, admirers, opticians and designers is accompanied by the daily talks of the Opti forum, such as the daily vintage-summit of the daily “design icon meets design rookie” talk,” the organizers said in a statement.

In addition, during the show opticians will have 28 hours, one hour more than at the previous events, to discover new products services. The main theme for Opti 2017 is “Optic 4.0 – Digital Solutions.” It is designed to be a common thread through all of the four halls and is organized into the four fields in which digitalization plays a role for an optician today and in the future: digital information and communication, digital production and automatization, digital process management and digital services.
