LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Wearable tech eyewear startup PogoTec announced that it is partnering with four optical frame and sunglass companies to launch its first product, a small, frame-mounted camera that attaches to fashionable eyewear. The device, known as PogoCam, is being unveiled this week at CES 2017.

Each of the four companies—ClearVision Optical, FGX International, Argus Vision and Vista Eyewear—plans to introduce ophthalmic frame or sunwear collections featuring PogoTrack, a proprietary system developed by PogoTec that features a thin, magnetized track located on the outside of a frame temple.

PogoTrack is designed to serve as a universal platform for PogoCam as well as a wide range of future electronic wearable devices such as an alertness monitor or UV meter can be mounted, according to PogoTec, which is headquartered in Roanoke, Va.

“We are thrilled to partner with ClearVision Optical for the introduction of PogoCam and frames with PogoTrack,” said Ron Blum, founder, president and CEO of PogoTec. “Unlike competitor products, PogoCam is a more advanced camera that takes still images as well as HD video with audio, attaches easily to many frame styles with or without prescription lenses and matches the fashion style of the user. ClearVision Optical’s commitment to this platform underscores our drive to make PogoCam an accessible solution for the mass market.”

David Friedfeld, president of ClearVision Optical, commented, “ClearVision is committed to developing unique technological products in and around the world of eyewear. Our PogoTrack collection is one way we’re delivering on that commitment. We’re building technological adaptability right into a pair of eyeglasses with this system. You can use it with the PogoCam right out of the box, but the possibilities going forward are endless.”

ClearVision will debut PogoCam this spring at International Vision Expo as part of its Ocean Pacific Collection.

Robert Grow, executive vice president, product development, for FGX International, said, “The collaboration between FGX International and PogoCam is the perfect solution for our customers who are seeking the latest eyewear innovations, but do not want to sacrifice their look. The styles we’ve developed with PogoCam represent a true turning point in both wearable technology and personal photography, allowing consumers to capture life’s moments with incredible style and ease.

PogoTec and its frame and sunglass partners will debut PogoTec at CES 2017 during the ShowStoppers press event from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Jan. 5, 2017 at the Wynn Hotel’s Lafitte Ballroom in Las Vegas.
