WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.— UnitedHealthcare ranked highest in customer satisfaction with vision plan carriers, according to the J.D. Power 2015 Vision Plan Satisfaction Report. The company performed particularly well in coverage, cost and communications, according to the report.

The 2015 Vision Plan Satisfaction Report, now in its third year, measures customer satisfaction with vision plan carriers based on five factors (in order of importance): coverage, cost, communications, customer service and reimbursement.

The report is based on responses from 1,998 vision plan members from September through October 2015. Satisfaction is calculated on a 1,000-point scale.

With overall satisfaction among vision plans members ranking an average of 707, the top four vision plans ranked as follows: UnitedHealthcare 729, EyeMed 712, VSP 707 and Davis Vision 698. All companies ratings were down slightly over last year’s rankings, with the exception of VSP, which was up by 5 points when compared with the 2014 report.

“Coverage and cost remain critical to satisfaction; however, the impact communication has on members should not be overlooked,” said Rick Johnson, director of the health care practice at J.D. Power. “Clear, frequent communications about the plan’s benefits helps members better understand how to use them and can also improve their perception of the plan’s value.”
