DULUTH, Ga.—The VOSH 2015 Annual Meeting was held in New Orleans Oct. 9 to 10, and National Vision, Inc. was the event’s lead sponsor. “This is a great philanthropic organization that provides tremendous care to the optically underserved, both domestically and in the developing world,” said Bob Stein, chief philanthropic development officer from National Vision, Inc.

The meeting was crafted by VOSH/International to provide information for chapters that will be implemented in clinics both nationally and internationally. “Many thanks to National Vision, Inc. for their sponsorship,” said Ellen Weiss, OD, FVI, and VOSH/International president. “Their support made this meeting possible,” she added.

Two important events were commemorated at the meeting: World Sight Day on Oct. 8 and the 10-year anniversary of hurricane Katrina. To remember those impacted by Katrina, a free clinic outreach proposed by VOSH/International was offered at the Sanchez Recreation Center. Located in the Lower Ninth Ward, this free clinic offered free eye exams and provided free glasses, which directly benefited the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

VOSH 2015 award winners were also announced at the annual meeting. “These are individuals who have given an outstanding amount of their time and expertise to help those in greatest need of optometric care. They have all made a positive impact on the world,” Weiss added.

Winners included: Justin Manning, OD, President’s Circle Award; Max Bruss, President’s Circle Award; Victoria Weiss, OD, Humanitarian of the Year; and Greg Pearl, OD, FVI, Lifetime Achievement Award.
