NEW YORK—Warby Parker, which earlier this year introduced kids’ frames as a pilot in some of its New York stores, this week introduced a limited-edition assortment of five sunglasses and five eyeglasses in support of the company’s Pupils Project. The program was launched in 2015 to help bring free vision screenings, eye exams and glasses to school children in need. The company is working on programs in New York City and in Baltimore. To build the collection, the company worked alongside 10 collaborators, “all New Yorkers whose creativity has shaped the city and beyond in innumerable ways.”

They include Rosario Dawson, Lena Dunham, Nikolai Fraiture, Iman, Fran Lebowitz, Humberto Leon, Mary-Louise Parker, Chloë Sevigny, Gloria Steinem, and Michael K. Williams who each co-designed a pair—and 100 percent of every purchase will support Pupils Project, allowing Warby and its partners to reach more students.

So far, over 46,000 pairs of eyeglasses have been given to students in need at 227 New York City public schools, and the company has expanded a similar program to all 150 public elementary and middle schools in Baltimore. In the 2018–2019 school year, Pupils Project expects to be in over 240 schools in New York City. Pupils Project leverages a variety of strategic partnerships with organizations and local government agencies, including the Department of Education in NYC and the Department of Education in Baltimore, to provide free vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to school children in need at no cost to families, the company said.
