NEW YORK--Next month at the annual Optical Laboratories Association (OLA) meeting in Indianapolis, a panel of lab executives and optical supplies will discuss the challenges of marketing new digital surfacing technologies to eyecare professionals. The event, billed as “Demystifying Digital Surfacing,” is the third and final general session at the OLA’s 2007 meeting. The panelists, including Warren Meyer of Perfect Optics, Bob Pech of Pech Optical, Scott Pearl of Digital Eye Lab and Ed de Rojas of Quest Optical, will discuss how the technology is impacting labs, eyecare professionals and consumers.

“Whether you call this technology digital surfacing, direct surfacing or freeform, it is profoundly changing the way ophthalmic lenses are designed, manufactured and distributed,” said Andrew Karp, group editor, lenses and technology for Vision Monday and 20/20 magazine, who will moderate the discussion. “Most importantly, a growing number of consumers is benefitting from digitally surfaced lenses, which offer enhancments over conventionally surfaced lenses. But the market’s full potential will only be realized when labs are able to communicate about these products clearly and consistently to their customers. The panel will explore how labs can accomplish this.”

“Demystifying Digital Surfacing” will take place at the Indiana Convention Center on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
