LEWISVILLE, Texas—Hoya Vision Care announced Friday that it has acquired Optics Plus, a wholesale lab located in Tonawanda, N.Y., near Buffalo.

The transaction was brokered by HPC Puckett & Company. The purchase price was not disclosed.

“When we seek out new lab partners we are looking beyond manufacturing competence. We are really seeking like-minded people who share our values and the values of independent practices such as long-term relationships, offering more choices, and protecting the value of the brand,” commented Barney Dougher, president of Hoya Vision Care, North America.

“Our strategic initiative is to help independent practices differentiate their brands and overcome commoditization,” added Pamela Tierney, regional manager for Hoya Vision Care. “By having a local presence we will have a greater opportunity to offer our Building Your Blue Light Practice program, education through our online portal Empower U, as well as offering Hoya’s science innovation and technology to help advance practice profitability and provide the best vision solutions for patients.”

Hoya territory managers Paul Manfredi and Julie Harlach will be the primary local representatives for the lab, which will continue to be managed by Forrest Reukauf.

“We are excited to grow the Hoya brand in the Buffalo market,” Reukauf said. “The independent practices here will appreciate the technology edge that Hoya product will bring to their business as well as the values we all share in support of independent practices.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony and reception are planned for later this month.
