MENLO PARK, Calif.—Oculus acquired The Eye Tribe which develops software that enables eye control on mobile devices and computers, allowing hands-free navigation.

Oculus, which was acquired by Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) in 2014, develops virtual reality (VR) platforms and products, including Oculus Rift.

The Eye Tribe is a Danish startup company that has been launched in the year 2011 by four students from the IT University of Copenhagen. The startup has been set out with the aim to make eye tracking more accessible to the masses. It has developed a $99 eye tracking device developer kits for computers, and software that can bring gaze-based interfaces to smartphones and potentially virtual reality headsets.

Eye-tracking is becoming a major element of leading VR products and research. Alphabet Inc.’s Google acquired Eyefluence, another startup working on eye-tracking technology, in October, as VMail reported.
