WASHINGTON D.C.—Optometrists might want to be aware of a new set of resources which are available to help educate patients and local employers in their communities about managing diabetes.

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) has introduced Managing Diabetes in the Workplace – A Year of Education and Resources. Information and free webinars are designed to support occupational and environmental health nurses with the latest evidence-based information and tools for day-to-day prevention and management of diabetes in the workplace and the information is helpful to any health care professional involved in detecting and managing diabetes.

Available through the AAOHN website, Managing Diabetes in the Workplace includes a dedicated web page with links to trusted resources, including Diabetes at Work, developed by the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP), a joint program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The site is designed to be a one-stop shopping site for the occupational and environmental health professional, with resources that provide the latest evidence-based education about diabetes and offers guidance for planning, building and promoting workplace activities for the prevention and management of diabetes as part of a wellness program.

Through a series of webinars over the course of a year, OHNs can learn about a variety of topics concerning diabetes from leading national experts. Details are posted on the website.
