NEW YORK—Eyecare professionals, public health providers and the U.S. government’s own Center for Disease Control (CDC) are planning to boost the visibility of contact lens healthy wear during the upcoming back-to-school season by shining a spotlight on healthy contact lens habits for teenage wearers—and their parents. And, the CDC is encouraging all ECPs to share information and take part via a series of social and digital media tools it will be making available through various platforms, including social media posts, website banners, a promotional toolkit and other posters and media.

The second annual Contact Lens Health Week is scheduled for Aug. 24 to 28.

To kick off the observance week, CDC plans to release a special article on Aug. 20 on the topic of the population at risk for contact lens-related eye infections and its estimates about the prevalence of improper hygiene practices that are known risk factors for eye infections.

In addition, on Monday Aug. 24, @CDCgov will host an hour-long twitter chat at #HealthyContactsChat from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm ET. Confirmed participants include the FDA, National Eye Institute, American Optometric Association and others.
