Summer Olympics 2012 Hits London and Vision Monday

LONDON and PITTSBURGH, PA.— Highmark Inc., the insurance company, has been running an advertising campaign this summer across Pennsylvania and West Virginia which is tagged with "Official Supplier to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team." Highmark provides health insurance coverage to approximately 1,000 elite athletes from across the United States competing in more than 45 sports.

"Our reputation as a leader and trusted partner in the health insurance industry makes us a natural fit to support the U.S. Olympic Team," said Steven Nelson, senior vice president of health services strategy, product and marketing at Highmark. "We are proud to contribute to the health and well-being of our nation's best athletes as they head into the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games."

The United States Olympic Committee relies on Highmark's plan designs, member engagement activities and member service ratings, according to a statement from Highmark.

Highmark-insured Team USA athletes carry a PPO Blue member card and use their health insurance while training, competing and traveling within the United States and overseas. The athletes' coverage includes benefits for important preventive care and coverage in and out of the provider network, which is comparable to plan designs that are offered to Highmark's group customers.

The USOC began its contract with Highmark in 2005, and since then, Highmark has provided coverage for thousands of athletes each year who participate in both the winter and summer games and the Paralympic Games. Highmark, is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans. It serves 4.8 million members in Pennsylvania and West Virginia through the company’s health care benefits business. Highmark is the parent of HVHC Inc., which includes the Visionworks of America, Davis Vision and Viva International Group businesses, although the vision businesses are not part of the Olympics-inspired campaign.
